History
Stephen Kahan opened his shop at 810 Madison Ave. in New York City in the summer of 1981. Prior to that Mr. Kahan had owned jewelry stores in Bucks County, Pa. His last business in Lahaska, Pa. was Lion House, where he sold estate and fine jewelry, Asian decorative objects and period furniture. Many of Mr. Kahan's clients were from the NYC area and many of these clients felt that Mr. Kahan's talents and highly cultivated asethetic sensibility belonged in Manhattan. Mr. Kahan was already spending a lot of time in Manhattan sourcing and finding amazing jewels for his gallery. Being in Manhattan so often, he and his wife Sally fell in love with all the cultural activities. So in 1981, the Kahans moved to Manhattan. In 1992, due to a large rent hike, Mr. Kahan moved his store to 25 E. 61st. street. Mr. Kahan felt strongly that his clients should not have to pay his high rent. His son Keith, a gemologist, joined the family-run business in 1995. This past spring we launched our new website.
