Located in the heart of downtown Riverhead, the Suffolk County Community College of Culinary Arts offers residents more than the opportunity to be a future chef. The Baker's Workshop, a sit-down cafe, provides the public with a glimpse of what the students are learning inside. Situated on a previously vacant lot since January 2008, the building was previously the temporary home of the Suffolk County Legislature during its Riverhead sessions. Behind the walls of the cafe, a culinary lab, baking lab and demonstration theater with a full kitchen provide ample opportunities to learn the trade. Culinary and pastry arts aren't the only programs offered on Main Street. A practical nursing program schools 30 future heath care technicians upstairs, and a hotel and resort management is offered as well.
