History
Originally built in the 1960s, today's Scribner's brings key characteristics of the Hudson Valley cultural renaissance together at one property. The property's transformation is helmed by New York's finest in the creative arts, with concept and curation by newly acclaimed design group, Studio Tack.
Specialties
High on a hill is a low-key lodge that brings together the free spirit of the 1960s and the sharp aesthetics and clean lines of the 2010s, for a whole new generation of adventurers. On the former grounds of the Hunter Mountain Prospect House, a grand retreat where hundreds of city dwellers would vacation in the late 19th century, and in the former Scribner Hollow Motor Lodge, Scribner's Catskill Lodge is reopening as a quieter - but no less stylish - Empire State escape. The newly renovated rooms feature custom-built furniture on vintage rugs, all with a meticulous attention to rustic-chic detail and a minimalist approach to rural living. There's also a terrace for taking in the views. Beyond the property's borders is the rugged landscape where you'll be spending your action-packed days. Hunter is best known for its ski resort, which also features a zip line and hosts cultural festivals year-round, and heading into nearby towns and hamlets, you'll happen upon the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary; other peaks, one of them (Slide) even bigger than Hunter; and the Hudson River. Of course, you don't actually need to step off of Scribner's 20 acres to get your doctor-ordered fix of fresh air and vigorous exercise. Stick around, and you'll find a bocce court and, opening in 2017, a seasonal outdoor pool - plus a fire pit, where you can gather; sing; and finish off your days of good, old-fashioned adventure with some good, old-fashioned relaxation.
