Specialties
Saratoga Budo's teaching focus is Japanese Jujutsu, Sword, & Self Defense. Japanese jujutsu employs a combination of grappling techniques, joint manipulation and striking against armed, unarmed and multiple attackers making it effective as both self defense and combat. Other arts such as Aikido, Judo, BJJ or Brazilian Jiu-jitsu all share one common source... Japanese Jujutsu. The fundamentals of jujutsu are very simple to learn, but the advanced methods and techniques take years of dedicated study to master. Battodo is the art of drawing and cutting with the sword in a single motion. Students will learn basic postures, directional cuts, and re-sheathings. Kata are also taught as a fundamental method for understanding principles such as posture, footwork, and moving in unison with the sword. We regularly offer self defense seminars to teach the fundamentals of self defense and safety awareness. Further training through private instruction or through our jujutsu program is recommended for continued study and development of self defense and safety awareness skills.
