History
After a spontaneous trip in the winter of 2011 to the World's Largest Shuffleboard Club in St. Petersburg, Florida, owners Ashley Albert and Jonathan Schnapp knew that they had to bring the sport back home to Brooklyn. By July 2012, they'd secured the lease on a run-down 17,000 square foot warehouse in Gowanus and set about raising money to make their vintage-Florida Shuffleboard dreams come true. It took another year and a half of fundraising and kickstartering and designing and permiting before the doors to The Royal Palms were ready to open in the winter 2013. Today, people from all over the world come to visit and fall in love with the game. The Royal Palms Monday and Tuesday Night Shuffleboard League boasts over 120 teams and Ashley and Jonathan are now internationally ranked shuffleboard players!
Specialties
The Royal Palms boasts 10 regulation-size shuffleboard courts in our 17,000 square foot, vintage-Florida inspired space on the sandy shores of the Gowanus Canal. In addition to a weekly bingo night, live tiki-bands, canvas cabanas and DJ's spinning old soul 45's, we offer a roster of properly festive drinks like hand-shaken pina coladas, guava-scented rum punch and classic daiquiris, plus 8 respectable craft beers on tap. Flamingo wallpaper in the bathroom, Old-school Florida Souvenirs, a resort-worthy staff and a daily rotation of (indoor!) food trucks round out the experience and promise to keep Brooklyn feeling tropical all year long. The Royal Palms is a 21-and-OLDER venue. (No one under 21, not even the cutest, tiniest babies, will be admitted into the bar.)
