Staffed by volunteers, the Greenport site of the Railroad Museum of Long Island is located steps from the Shelter Island Ferry and Hampton Jitney stop. The site was once a Long Island Railroad freight building, and now houses two cars, the Museum gift, shop, a large model railroad layout and historical railroad paraphernalia.
The Museum hosts several special events, including the visit by Santa Claus each December. Santa arrives by train and visits with children.
The museum is funded primarily through donations and membership fees.
