Incorporated in 1907, the Queens Borough Public Library is an independent, nonprofit corporation. It is one of the largest public libraries in the United States. The library serves more than 2 million individuals, as well as maintains over 62 locations throughout New York. It stocks nearly 1,250,000 books, approximately 2,100 periodicals and more than 50,000 print items, including government documents, directories, journals, and financial service and investor guides. The library additionally circulates reference materials on health, computer technology, business, literature, science and music. It also stocks various books world languages, including Bengali, Chinese, French, Gujarati, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish and Urdu. The library organizes several educational, cultural and literary programs for students and adults. The Queens Borough Public Library is funded by the state and federal government of New York.
