Retired air traffic controller Ray Blum planted the first vines at Peconic Bay Winery in 1979. Since then, wines such as Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvigon and Cabernet Franc have been produced from grapes grown on 200 acres.
The current tasting room, complete with panoramic patio, tapas menu and high-energy live music every weekend, opened in 2009 across from the shopping center in Cutchogue.
The winery recently picked up the Nautique line of wines, which are gaining in popularity, and is working to develop a line of spirits. Alongside booking weekend warrior musicians for entertainment, Peconic Bay has hosted concerts by bigger names such as John Pizzarelli, Richie Havens and Mountain.
