Founded in 1933, the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority is an international compact entity created through a compact entered into by the state of New York and the government of Canada. It is an international border crossing that is responsible for toll collection and maintenance of the Peace Bridge, which connects New York in the United States and Ontario in Canada. The authority also acts as a landlord for customs and immigration agencies. In addition, the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority is a link to long-distance, interstate travel and international trade. The authority acquires, holds and disposes real and personal properties and offers them on a rental basis for corporate purposes. It supports community sponsorship and stormwater management programs.
