Douglass Houses is named after Fredrick Douglass (1817-1895). Born into slavery, he became a major force in desegregation of schools, housing, employment & voting rights. Douglass II Houses has six buildings, 9, 12, 17, & 20-stories tall w/ 753 apartments. Completed Sept. 25, 1958, 9.53-acres.
