The Newburgh Fire Department works to provide fire prevention and suppression and emergency control services. Its other services include public education, code enforcement, fire investigation, hazardous material response, and ice, water and confined space rescue. The department is comprised of more than 60 line officers, dispatchers, lieutenants and fire fighters. The Newburgh Fire Department provides information regarding fire prevention and handles electrical licensing permits. It houses a fleet of pumpers, engines, aerial trucks and rescue vans. The department also supports an apprentice training program. Established in 1795, the Newburgh Fire Department additionally offers several employment opportunities to citizens.
