The New York Budo Association, established in 1963 by Otani Sensei, is one of the first Traditional Japanese Budo Schools in the USA. As a nonprofit organization, their mission is to practice and sustain the techniques, philosophies, and benefits of the Japanese martial arts, promoting culture, physical and mental growth, health and well-being, as well as non-denominational spirituality.
With a focus on the study of Iaido and Kenjutsu, the art of traditional Japanese sword, specifically Ryushin Shouchi Ryu (RSR), NYBA is the main branch of RSR on the east coast of the USA. They also offer classes in Kyudo, Japanese archery. Through their communal approach to learning, NYBA provides an active community where individuals from all backgrounds can develop themselves physically and mentally, promoting understanding and the practice of these traditional Japanese arts.
