Established in 1964, the New York Blood Center is a nonprofit blood distribution and research organization that serves customers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. It is one of the largest community-based blood centers in the United States that provides blood and transfusion products and services for more than an annual 1 million transfusions in more than 200 hospitals. The New York Blood Center operates the National Marrow Donor Program to facilitate bone marrow and blood stem cell transplants for patients who need an unrelated donor transplant. In addition, its over 20 research laboratories conduct studies related to the prevention and treatment of blood-related illnesses. It has a staff of medical professionals and transfusion medicine physicians that provides medical, clinical and hemophilia services. The New York Blood Center is located in Westbury, N.Y.
