The New Rochelle Day Nursery is a non-profit organization, licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children ( NAEYC ). The Nursery was established in 1895 to meet the needs of working parents or those pursuing further education. The New Rochelle Day Nursery is proud to be the first day care center licensed in New York State. The Nursery currently serves children 18 months through 5 years of age. The hours of operation are from 7: 30AM to 6: 00PM, 50 weeks a year. The Nursery observes eleven legal holidays and one professional training day and is closed the last two weeks in August. Parents are encouraged to attend workshops, parent meetings and special events which occur throughout the year. Workshops are designed to inform parents of current trends in parenting skills and other important related social issues. A parent representative is on the Board of Directors. Volunteers are an integral part of the New Rochelle Day Nursery community. They provide reading hours, mentoring, office and class assistance. The Board of Directors of the New Rochelle Day Nursery are members of the community who are elected for a specific term and who serve uncompensated. The Board of Directors oversees all the business and affairs of the Day Nursery. Pre-K and Kindergarten curricula which are consistent with that used by the New Rochelle Public Schools.
