Established in 1897, The Middleburgh Telephone Company is currently celebrating over 110 years of service. It is one of the oldest of New York State's 40 independent telephone companies. Today, the company serves over 7,000 customers throughout 330 square miles of Schoharie County and parts of Albany County. MIDTEL has received a second grant award of 6.8M from the New NY Broadband Grant Program. This grant will bring fiber optic based broadband services with up to 1Gbps in speed to nearly 1600 additional homes and businesses in the towns of Blenheim, Broome, Carlisle, Cobleskill, Conesville, Fulton, Gilboa, Jefferson, Middleburgh, Richmondville, Schoharie, Summit and Wright. Combined with MIDTELs private investment, this project totals 8.5M in infrastructure improvements. In total between MIDTELs two grant projects, over 15.5M will be invested in fiber optic infrastructure in Schoharie County.
