The Conservation Department is in charge of maintaining the town's street tree population. Elizabeth Paul, the department's environmental coordinator, performs a number of roles, including advising the town on environmental matters, coordinating tree planting programs, hiring and supervising the Summer Conservation Crew, implementing the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), inspecting sites to ensure compliance with the town's environmental regulations, and providing staff services to the Coastal Zone Management Commission. The Town of Mamaroneck is also in charge of maintaining several areas: the Old Mill Site; the Larchmont Reservoir - James G. Johnson Jr. conservancy; the Leatherstocking trail; the Sheldrake river trails; and the Premium Marsh, Sether Woods and Revere Road conservation areas. All of the above are open to the public from dawn to dusk. The Town of Mamaroneck has received the Tree City U.S.A. Award from the National Arbor Day Foundation on numerous occasions.
