Malverne Senior High School currently stands on a stretch of land that used to be Pine Lake. The lake was fed by underwater streams that cut off Malverne from Lakeview. The village had to drain the lake in order to construct the school, which opened in 1956. At that time, students needed to cross a bridge to reach the athletic fields behind the school because a stream continued to run through the property. Famous graduates of Malverne High School include actor Tony Danza, Olympic gold medalist Derrick Adkins and journalist and author Jeffrey Goldberg. Today, the high school educates nearly 600 students each year and offers a diverse collections of clubs, sports and other extracurricular activities.
