John A. Walsh founded his funeral home business in 1894, when he opened his first location in Woodhaven and then a second one in Brooklyn. After he passed, his son Anthony, who had taken over the family business, purchased a piece of property in the village of Malverne in 1938. Here, he opened up the Malverne Funeral Home and relinguished the other properties. This full-service funeral home continues to be owned and operated by the Walsh family.
Today, John's grandson David, runs the business along with his daughter Tammy, who are both licensed funeral directors and residents of the village. (David knows the community well, having served as the former village historian and owner of the Malverne Times for five years.) The funeral home has one of the largest chapels and also offers pre-planning and counseling services. There is private parking available next to the funeral home.
