Our 80 volunteer firefighters give of their time in unparalleled ways. Because none of the fire staff is salaried, it counts on a very generous community to support its extremely valuable services.Through year-round fundraisers, from annual golf tournaments to chicken barbeque, and Cream Cheese Festival to the Auxiliary Craft Fair, the Lowville Volunteer Fire Department raises the moneys needed to serve the needs of the department. Expenses are high in upkeep of the machinery, supplies, and gasoline for the trucks. In fact, it takes just shy of $2, 000 to outfit just one firefighter. Many take for granted the comfort in knowing that should they wake in the night and smell smoke, that they have a department of volunteers willing to leave their beds, jobs, families to serve and protect at no financial benefit to themselves. These men and women are true heroes and givers of themselves. FIRE HALL Another way in which the Fire Department raises funds to pay the many costs of fire protection is to rent out the many thousand square-foot fire hall for wedding receptions, business meetings, social gatherings, and craft fairs. The beautiful facility comes complete with in-house catering and optional bar services. The facility does maintain a serving liquor license for just such purposes. To learn how you might reserve the fire hall, visit our "Contact Us" page to get in contact with us using the non-emergency phone number.
