Dr. Bola Akande is happily married and lives with his wife and children in Brooklyn, New York. Bola is an ordained minister and a medical doctor with a medical degree from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria. He worked for several years as a general medical practitioner before coming to the USA for further studies. After passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination in 1998 and obtaining the ECFMG certificate, he chose to go into clinical research in Neuropsychiatry / Behavioral Science at the State University Of New York Downstate Medical Center where he worked as a clinical research scientist after completing some trainings in the art of brain stimulation at the Columbia University Institute of Biologic Psychiatry where he focused his attention on repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation. RTMS is a computer-based method of brain stimulation in patients with recalcitrant major depression. He was also a clinical research investigator for the NIMH-sponsored CATIE AD Study.
