History
Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy has served over 20,000 students and families in central Brooklyn. The organization's mission is to support the creative, educational, and vocational development of youth of African descent. Ifetayo began as a six-week series of free modern dance classes for 50 students living in the Flatbush community, since then it has grown into an educational institution serving over 2,000 students annually through six integrated in-school, afterschool, and weekend programs in academic and literacy training, artistic training, personal skills development, community engagement, cultural heritage classes, and socially responsible art making. The organization's name comes from the West African Yoruba word
