Chartered in 1919 by the United States Congress, the American Legion is the country's largest veterans' service organization, with more than 2.5 million members. The Mamaroneck chapter, Post 90, was established in 1946, and is located directly across from the Veteran's Memorial Hospital and the Village of Mamaroneck Municipal Building. In addition to supporting local scout troops and little league teams, as well as many other charitable organizations, Post 90 is getting ready to present $8,000 in college scholarships to the winners of an essay-writing contest at Mamaroneck High School and Rye Neck High School. Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. The facility, located in an historic former Methodist Church, is also availble for rent for private parties for up to 80 people.
