In 1850, Elizabeth Tolbert owned the prosperous farm and stately home built in the Greek Revival style at 11 Maple Lane that would become a landmark home in Steuben County. The Fenton family aquired the property through marriage at the beginning of the 20th century. They farmed the land and grazed their dairy herd on the 450 acres until 1943 when it was purchased by Amory Houghton, chairman of Corning Glass Works and Ambassador to France from 1957-61.
