Founded in 1947, the Generoso Pope Foundation was started by Generoso Pope, an Italian immigrant who worked his way up to become the owner of a successful sand and gravel business as well as several Italian-American newspapers in New York, among other achievements.
The mission of the foundation is to give back to the community by helping to fund and aid projects involving education and health and human services.
Completed in 1913, the foundation is housed in the building originally designed as Village Hall. Today it shares the space with the Westchester Italian Cultural Center.
David Anthony Pope, Generoso's great-grandson, now serves as president.
