History
After a serious injury left Dan unable to work, or carry out household tasks like cleaning dishes, he began studying the Alexander Technique. His return to health, as well as his deep experience with the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of pain, inspired him to help others. Dan now teaches the Technique as a method of recovering balance and well-being. Dan is a former collegiate polo player who after a serious injury in my mid-20s, could not swim more than a lap or two because of pain. He had to teach himself how to swim using the Alexander Technique with a minimum amount of extra strain or inefficiency. Dan now brings the same process, with curiosity and good humor, to individuals who wish to swim without fear or pain.
Specialties
I teach Fluid Movement, an innovative approach to dealing with pain and stress drawing on my training as an Alexander Technique teacher and my experience coming back from a life-changing injury. I take the medically proven approach of the Alexander Technique and give you a chance to undo a lifetime of tension, years of pain, and live with less stress and more ease. It's a less expensive solution than years of massages and physical therapy, etc. I teach you to become a student of your own body, so that you can move forward in your healing process without me in the room. You'll learn the skills to stop contributing to your pain or performance cycles. You will be embarking on a satisfying mind-body journey. I also each an individualized approach to swimming based on making friends with the water, healthy alignment, and easeful breathing. I don't just talk from the pool deck. I value hands-on instruction and teach a step-by-step approach to learning the strokes that is fun and in-depth.
