About: The first and only Presbyterian Church in Katonah, this church had its beginnings in the summer of 1871, when a devout group of potential Presbyterians converged for worship on the third floor of Avery's hardware store in "Old" Katonah.
With seven initial members, the new congregation was organized by the Presbytery of Westchester on November 17, 1872, and a new church was built at a site one mile north of its current location.
In 1891, when the hamlet had to make way for the construction of new reservoirs for New York City's water supply, along with many other buildings, the church, too, was displaced. It moved to its present home at 31 Bedford Road in 1898-99, where it has stood for more than 100 years.
Pastor: Reverend Gavin Meeks
Service Schedule: The congregation meets for worship every Sunday at 10am. These services feature the choir and an informal Presbyterian liturgy and are held concurrently with church school for children of all ages.
Membership: Membership is not mandatory to attend the church. However, those interested in becoming full-fledged members are invited to meet with the members of the Membership Development Committee, responsible for guiding individuals through the membership process.
Currently, members come from all over northern Westchester and Putnam counties and Connecticut. The southern tier of the Hudson River Presbytery, the Katonah Presbyterian is the 10th largest among the 85 churches in the Presbytery, which extends from Sullivan County to Yonkers in southern Westchester.
