The East-West School of Dance, based in New York, is a pioneering institute that has been promoting Kathak dance and dance dramas in North America since 1981. They offer regular classes in Kathak dance and have been presenting recitals and productions all over North America, as well as sponsoring guest artists and master teachers for performances and workshops in both eastern and western traditions.

During the winter of 2003-2004, the East-West School of Dance toured India, showcasing select dancers from their institute who performed pieces from the traditional Kathak repertoire, scenes from dance-dramas, and a special fusion presentation incorporating classical Kathak, Ballet, and Modern Contemporary dance.

The non-profit organization is funded mostly from course fees, except for the GED and ESL programs, which are state funded. Night classes primarily take place at Mamaroneck High School, while daytime classes are held at the Larchmont Temple and the community room at the Hommocks Ice Rink . They range in price from $45 for a one-time, two- or three-hour class, to $225 for a 10- session language course.

Riverside Language Program

HistoryThe Riverside Language Program was started by Phyllis Berman, Leslie Robbins and other teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in 1979. We were committed to creating a model program that served the needs of the prospective students first and foremost. The school's site, on West 120th Street and Riverside Drive in Manhattan, was deliberately chosen so that the school would not be in a neighborhood associated with only one ethnic group. Our classes reflect an international community bound in their quest to master the English language, and we aim to achieve a balance of language groups in our school. Over the years, we have served over 28,000 new-comers to New York City, and our alumni have gone on to become active participants in every aspect of American society.SpecialtiesWe provide free, 25 hour a week intensive English classes to documented, newly arrived immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. We also provide internships and teacher training for TESOL instructors.
