The narrow strip of beach in Port Jefferson, just around the head of the harbor heading toward the mouth of Mount Sinai Harbor, is aptly named, as it is on the easterly shore of the village boundaries. Because of storms that severely eroded the beachhead, the town has closed off much of the shoreline to visitors (with approval from the DEC). Residents can still enjoy the Long Island Sound, but with much less beach area. Groups are welcome to have parties, but a permit may be required. There's a swing set and some trails.
