Dr. Dor Lotan is an Assistant Professor of Cardiology and Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Transplant Cardiologist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Lotan specializes in taking care of patients with heart diseases, mainly heart failure, that are in need for advanced therapies, such as, mechanically circulatory support devices, intensive cardiac care, left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and heart transplantation. Additionally, Dr. Lotan is an expert in pericardial diseases with great experience in taking care of patients with recurrent pericarditis that is resistant to conventional therapies. His clinical interest includes heart failure, advanced heart failure therapies, cardiomyopathies, pericardial disease and cardiovascular hemodynamics. Dr. Lotan spends time between inpatient care and outpatient care, as well as, performing procedures in the heart catheterization lab where he does advanced invasive hemodynamic studies and endomyocardial biopsies. Dr. Lotan graduated medical school from Semmelweis University with praise and completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Sheba Medical Center in Israel. He also completed his Advanced Heart Failure Fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. During training, Dr. Lotan published several scientific medical papers in peer-reviewed journals and published three book chapters, among them in a cardiovascular medicine textbook by the European Society of Cardiology. Dr. Lotan has been invited to give lectures about his research work at numerous international medical conferences and participated in the European Task Force and international multi-center prospective studies. Dr. Lotan's primary research focus has been on advanced heart failure therapies, hemodynamics, cardiomyopathies, and pericardial diseases. Finally, Dr. Lotan is a member of the American College of Cardiology, Heart Failure Society of America, and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
