For over 50 years, the Diocese of Rockville Centre has been helping those in need through its philanthropic endeavors. The diocese, which is the second largest in the country, is composed of 134 parishes in 115 towns, and it spans Nassau and Suffolk counties. It is the second largest non-governmental employer on Long Island with nearly 20,000 employees, who serve in the diocese's hospitals, parishes and schools. Its pastoral center is located at 50 N. Park Ave. in the village, and the diocese educates more than 33,000 students in 57 elementary and 10 high schools, with 99 percent of its high school graduates moving on to college. In 2008, more than 55,000 disadvantaged people were helped by Catholic Charities, a non-profit run by the diocese. Its Meals-on-Wheels program also delivers more than 200,000 meals per year to homebound seniors and its outreach programs provide philanthropic services to more than 17,000 families a month.
