Casa Pueblo is a community self-management project committed to appreciating and protecting natural, cultural, and human resources. Founded in 1980, Casa Pueblo emerged as a response to the Puerto Rican government's plans to initiate mining operations in 17 deposits of silver, gold, and copper, which would have caused an ecological and social catastrophe. Led by founding members Tinti Dey Díaz and Alexis Massol González, along with a dedicated group of volunteers, Casa Pueblo continues to champion environmental and social causes.
Café Madre Isla, established by Casa Pueblo in 1989, is a high-quality artisanal coffee brand that aims to break the cycle of poverty and exploitation in the coffee industry. Through this project, Casa Pueblo seeks to promote sustainable and fair trade practices, supporting local farmers and preserving the cultural heritage of coffee production in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico.
