Located in Brooklyn, N.Y., Baltic Street Mental Health Board is a consumer-run mental health organization. It offers a wide range of programs and services that help people obtain jobs and housing, and provide social support, education, vocational training, health benefits, financial entitlements and other community services. Its services include advocacy and self-help, and employment assistance. Its advocacy services include offering information and resources on housing and entitlements, such as Medicare and Medicaid. In addition, it provides hands-on assistance in seeking access to benefits and to other community resources and organizes group workshops. Through its Bridger program, it coordinates with clients and hospitals to enhance communication between hospitals and communities. It provides assistance to clients in developing new skills, such as learning to travel on public transportation and applying for benefits.
