Located in Stony Brook, less than a mile from the village, Avalon Park offers residents trails and incredible manicured features for spending an afternoon. Owned and operated by the Paul Simons Foundation, a charitable organization set up by billionaire hedge fund manager James Simons in memorial to his deceased son, the park surrounds a pristine goose pond that attracts a great variety of water fowl. Wood bridges, wood benches, and a stone sculpture called the Labyrinth are a few other attractions. At the top of the hill, the open, green expanses are the picture of serenity.
