The Office of the Attorney General is charged with the statutory and common law powers to protect consumers, investors, charitable donors and businesses. The office maintains locations throughout New York. It manages a criminal prosecution bureau that is responsible for the investigation of criminal cases. The Office of the Attorney General also operates a public integrity bureau that issue reports about its investigations and findings. The office manages a labor bureau that prosecutes employers for criminal violations, as well as answers questions from the public. In addition, its tobacco compliance bureau is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the state laws and policies.
