History
Talking Drums is a step up from our Zenith African Market that was started in 2000, in response to New Mexican's need for an African store. We saw the struggle and responded to the Africans residing in the 505 area code's need for their homeland staples. Zenith (at the same location) still tends to the African community, providing the hard to find items such as yam, palm oil, palm wine, smoked fish, clothing and other accessories. Talking drums came to be, in response to our New Mexican's community in general (local foodies), requesting for cooked African food. It has not been easy but to the faithfulness of God and our loyal customers, we are still here to serve them the best we can. We have gone through some modifications throughout these years and we are still working on finding the best ways to stay open and provide our customers with the best service possible, please try and bare with us.
Specialties
We serve authentic West African food ( slightly modified to accommodate our vegetarian and vegan clientele), the best jerk chicken served, this side of the State, and the only place serving (our customer's favorite) the famous, Ethiopian, Injera.
