About Qynergy Qynergy Corporation is a privately-held company that was founded in 2001 for the purpose of developing cutting-edge energy and power solutions. Qynergy originally licensed technology from Sandia National Laboratories and the University of New Mexico for development of their betavoltaic power cells ( QynCells ). Qynergy continues to enjoy a great business relationship with both Sandia and UNM. Qynergy is successfully blending private and public funding to create a family of products that provide portable power capabilities that do not exist in current battery and energy storage systems. Using its proprietary QynCell technology, Qynergy has created compact, high energy density power cells that use radiation-hard semiconductor materials to harness the power emitted by radioisotopes. This technology is analogous to solar cell conversion of light to electric power. Qynergy is also developing an aqueous, asymmetric ultracapacitor ( QynCap ). The QynCap is a hybrid device that couples the high energy of a battery with the high power of a capacitor. Qynergy has also diversified their technology focus beyond power systems and is now developing a line of human-portable radiation detectors. The boron solid-state ( BoSS ) neutron detector is the first of these devices. The BoSS detector is a compact, rugged neutron detection device capable of operating under extreme conditions. Complimenting this detection device is the piezoelectric neutron generator ( PiNG ) being developed jointly by Qynergy and the University of Missouri. Unlike current neutron generators, the PiNG devices will be small ( about the footprint of a credit card ) and low power ( capable of operating remotely on batteries ). Qynergy's expertise in energy storage devices ( ultracapacitors and lithium primary and secondary batteries ), nuclear engineering, materials, semiconductor engineering and microelectronic systems enables us to develop custom power and radiation detection systems for defense, intelligence, homeland security and commercial customers. 40% of our staff at Qynergy has advanced degrees in fields ranging from electrical engineering to material science and business.
