The Upper Hondo Soil Water Conservation District is a governmental subdivision of the State of New Mexico, established in July 1941. Covering over 1 million acres primarily in Lincoln County, with some in Chavez County, they are dedicated to educating the public on soil and water conservation practices, as well as eradicating noxious weeds.
Through their programs, the Upper Hondo Soil Water Conservation District offers farmers, ranchers, and small tract urban landowners the opportunity to participate in cost-share plans for various conservation initiatives, including brush control, erosion control, pipelines, dirt tanks, cross fencing, and rainwater harvesting.
