Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church is a congregation of African American Presbyterians whose faith and beliefs flow through many generations. It is one of the oldest such congregations in the state. The Greek Revival-style structure was built in 1840. Members are encouraged to worship through Christian Education and provide an outreach to the community and women's ministry. The group were originally known as the First Presbyterian Church of Colour in Princeton, and there is a memorial on-site that states Elizabeth Stockton began the first Sabbath School here for African American children. There's also a dedication to the N.J. Women's Heritage Trail with highlights that show the significant contributions of women to the history of the state.
