The South Orange Muncipal court holds criminal and traffic sessions, and rules on disorderly persons cases, code enforcement cases (primarily concerning housing code, noise complaints and animal control), moving violations, parking violations and DWIs. It also holds video conferencing sessions, during which people being held at the county jail for failure to pay fines, outstanding warrants and other minor offenses address the judge. Felony cases are heard at Essex County Superior Court in Newark.
Monday's criminal session begins at 12:30pm; the traffic session begins at 3pm; the Traffic/criminal sessions and video conferencing begin at 3:30pm on Tuesday. Video conferencing begins at 3pm on Thursday.
