Established in 1884, the Ocean City Fire Department provides fire protection and prevention services. Headquartered in Ocean City, N.J., the department has a staff of professional personnel that includes firefighters and fire investigation and control officers. It operates various fire stations to respond faster to fire emergencies and provide 24-hour services. The department additionally provides emergency medical services to people injured in fire accidents and explosions and trapped in other emergency situations, such as road accidents. The Ocean City Fire Department also has an emergency service unit to provide ambulance services to transfer patients to hospitals injured in fire and road accidents. The department attends to more than 2,500 fire emergency calls annually. Additionally, it has a special team to provide rescue services in case of confined space and water-related emergencies.
