The New Jersey Insurance Underwriting Association was created by the Legislature of New Jersey in 1968 to provide essential property insurance to any person unable to obtain insurance from a voluntary company. The association includes all voluntary admitted market insurance companies writing property insurance within New Jersey on a direct basis. Its policy-making body includes a 21-member board of directors representing insurance companies, agent and broker associations and the general public. It is controlled by the New Jersey State Department of Banking and Insurance. The New Jersey Insurance Underwriting Association maintains a location in Newark, N.J.
