Part of the New Jersey Department of Education, the Office of the Superintendent of Schools is the regulatory and technical assistance agency for the 41 school districts in the county, which include more than 68,000 students housed in nearly 150 school buildings. The Superintendent is responsible for certification, finance, budgeting, curriculum, instruction, facilities and special education services and works on special projects in cooperation with local school districts, county agencies and other divisions of the State Department of Education.
