Frank Liggio, MD, is a part of Summit Medical Groups Orthopedic team, specializing in pediatric orthopedic care. Dr. Liggio has been practicing pediatric orthopedics for over 14 years, with expertise in the surgical and non-surgical management and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions affecting children and adolescents. Dr. Liggio practices based on the concept that every child, no matter how big or small, should have a positive experience in a comfortable environment while receiving the best care possible.Dr. Liggio knew from an early age that he wanted to be a physician but became especially drawn to the field of orthopedics during the time leading up to college. He has always had a love for sports but believes a high school injury that required an orthopedic procedure to heal properly, may have elevated his interest.Dr. Liggio graduated from University of Notre Dame with high honors and was accepted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and the Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society, a pre-med honor society. He attended New Jersey Medical School in Newark (now Rutgers Medical School), where he received his MD degree. Graduating near the top of his class positioned him for acceptance into The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He was also awarded the New Jersey Medical School Academic Excellence Scholarship. Dr. Liggio completed a General Surgery Internship followed by an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at New York University Medical Center. During his residency, he was awarded the Eleanor Kaufman Pediatric Orthopedic Research Award, which launched him on a rewarding career path in pediatric orthopedics. Dr. Liggio completed a Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship at the A.I. DuPont Childrens Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware during which he published several scientific articles in peer review journals.Over the past several years, Dr. Liggio has donated his time to an organization called Healing the Children, a group who helps provide medical care to children in the U.S. and around the world who do not have access to the care they need. When not seeing patients, he enjoys sharing several hobbies (skiing, playing tennis, running) with his wife of over 25 years and four children. He and his wife completed a marathon together in Virginia Beach, Virginia and since then, he has completed the New York City Marathon twice.
