As you enter La Rosa's Pastry Shop, there is a divine smell of freshly baked cakes, cookies, pastries and cannolis. The choices are endless. This sixth-generation family bakery, which has been in business for 110 years in locations in New York and then Staten Island, has called Shrewsbury its home for the past 20 years. Owner Peter La Rosa, a resident of nearby Middletown, says his store stands out from the rest because it has more variety and everything is made from scratch. On any given day, the shop offers 30 different cakes in its showcase, 15 types of cannolis, and eight different biscotti offerings. The shop has six tables for those who'd like to eat its sumptuous desserts in house. La Rosa's was voted as having the best pastry in Monmouth Magazine for two years running, 2009 and 2010. It is conveniently located on main thoroughfare of Newman Springs Road.
