The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills, formerly known as the Basking Ridge Historical Society, was established in 1928 and serves the communities of Bedminster Township, Bernards Township, Bernardsville, Far Hills, and Peapack-Gladstone in New Jersey. Its mission is to acquire, preserve, and share historic artifacts and information, promote local history, encourage preservation efforts, facilitate research, and operate a local history museum.
With a dedicated Board of Trustees overseeing its operations, the society holds monthly meetings and conducts several General Membership Meetings each year. It takes pride in its role in preserving the rich history of the region, including notable landmarks like the historic Grain House, which recently celebrated its 250th year of construction. From its humble beginnings to its current endeavors, The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills has played a vital role in supporting the growth of new historic organizations and fostering a deeper appreciation for local history.
