Food Circus Super Markets had humble beginnings as John and Angelina Azzolina, immigrants from Italy, opened a small corner grocery store in the Highlands. Their children Joe and Grace, helped run the family business, which was destined to flourish and grow under the traditional values of hard work and dedication. The store expanded into a superette called The Food Basket, and in 1956 Food Circus was officially born when the Foodtown of Middletown was opened. Food Circus Foodtowns cover three New Jersey counties along the Jersey Shore with more than 1,400 employees. The company is one of the innovative leaders in the food industry and among the top 10 employers in Monmouth County. The third generation of the Azzolina and Scaduto families has assumed the responsibility of operating the Food Circus Foodtown chain launched by the family in 1955.
