Canoe Brook Country Club, Summit N.J., features the original golf course that is one of only 17 courses in the United States designed by the renowned team of C.H. Alison and H.S. Colt. The club s South Course was designed in 1924, with later revisions by Walter Travis, William & David Gordon, and Rees Jones. Alfred Tull designed the North Course in 1949, with later revisions by the Gordons and Robert Trent Jones. The North Course is longer, with two tough finishing holes at 455 and 601 yards, but the opening five holes on the South Course are as good a stretch as any on either course. Canoe Brook Country Club has hosted qualifying events for the U.S. Open. The clubhouse men s and women s lockerooms have been expanded with new bathrooms. The Grill Room has been renovated with mahogany paneling, amenities, doors and windows to the new terrace. Further improvements have been to the kitchen and exterior rear facade, the three level stone terrace overlooking the golf course adding brick pavers and stone walls covered a seating area.
