The Andover Township Police Department works to preserve peace and reduce crime through the enforcement of local, state and federal laws. It is comprised of more than 10 full-time police officers and dispatch personnel. Established in 1974, the department has a communication center that coordinates responses to various police, fire and medical emergency and nonemergency calls. The Andover Township Police Department conducts child safety seat inspection and gun lock safety programs, as well as has a traffic bureau that handles cases of accidents caused by the violations of traffic laws. The department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an educational classroom program that helps to prevent drug abuse and violence among children. The Andover Township Police Department is located in Newton, N.J.
