Founded in 1933, the Peterborough Players offers professional theatre of the highest quality and has established a reputation for itself as a prime destination in the region. The Peterborough Players presents its work in an intimate theatre located in a converted 18th-century barn at historic Stearns Farm, three miles from downtown Peterborough. Having completed the most extensive renovations in the company's history in 2006, the state-of-the-art theatre now seats 250 in air-conditioned comfort. As the only professional producing theatre in the region and one of the oldest summer stock companies in the country, the Players has staged more than 300 different plays over the years including works by Shakespeare, Shaw, Ibsen, Wilde, Wilder, Beckett, Williams, Miller, and Mamet. Distinctive from the programming of many other summer theatres, the Players has also presented a variety of world and regional premieres as well as recent work by contemporary playwrights. Seven Main Stage productions are offered each season. In addition, two Second Company shows for children are produced, as well as an Ascending Stars production a collaborative effort between local high school students and our professional company. Residents of southern New Hampshire and outlying areas as well as daytrippers from the greater Boston area and many other cities and towns in Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, and Maine enjoy coming to our charming, rural setting to experience excellent theatre. Our packages with local Inns and restaurants make the Peterborough Players a sought-after destination for out-of-towners as well, or locals who want an affordable, low-stress getaway without having to travel far. 2010 Peterborough Players, P.O.
