History
The Nelson's family tradition of candy making dates as far back as 1911 but was officially establlished and founded by Douglas' grandparents Allen Mack Nelson and his wife Anne Downes Nelson in 1914. Together with their growing family, Allen and Anne owned and operated Nelson's Candies in Lowell, Massachussets and went on to open a store on the booming boardwalk of Hampton Beach, New Hampshire shortly after WWII . It was here where young Douglas grew up making salt water kisses along side his father Donald and his grandfater Allen as well as his uncles and brothers. The Nelsons opened Mrs. Nelson's Candy House in 1954 in Chelmsford, Massachussets, which is still operates today but under different ownership. Nelson's Candies of Wilton has been a landmark for over 20 years!
